Our Backyard Farming Beliefs and Objectives

We believe that nothing is more important than how we eat. We salute all those who grow, buy, prepare and consume their food with with as much thought as they can give it.

We strive to grow food in a sustainable way. We think that food production is most sustainable, the closer it gets to home. We believe that yards are an under- utilized resource and think it would be great if everybody grew some food!

Our goal is to produce all our own food, though we understand that may never be practical. We make choices of what to grow based on what we enjoy eating, and what saves us money at the store. Beans and rice are cheap, and at the moment impractical to grow to sufficient quantities.

Because we do eat meat, we try to produce all our own meat as humanely as possible. We are learning and adapt our practices with new information.

We are coming to find that much of our sense of satisfaction comes from a greater involvement in the process. The more satisfying something is, the less likely we are to over consume/ over do. We think this is a universal truth, that applies to food as well.
